Moeckel Carbonell Associates Inc. Receives National Honor.
Moeckel
Carbonell Associates Inc., the Wilmington , Delaware based
architectural firm, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the
American Institute of Architects' "New Home on the Range" International
Design Competition.
The competition challenged architects from around the world
to design the twenty-first century seminal house that explores
the impact of economic and social issues associated with
housing, while maintaining a strong focus on the principles
of sustainable design.
Moeckel Carbonell Associates Inc.'s submission, entitled Study
in Red #1 , provides the modern family with a design
that adheres to its ever-changing characteristics, while
maintaining an efficiency of resources. Current pressures
to conform to a Western lifestyle, as well as global information
technologies, have eroded expressions of the immigrant
culture. Study in Red #1 seeks to be a vessel for
cultural preservation, while also maintaining the level
of efficiency needed for sustained environmental preservation.
The design is a compilation of unitized components
that have the ability to be sold, bought or re-constructed
as family needs change. These individual, factory-built components
greatly reduce waste while providing greater quality.
Joseph Carbonell III, AIA, Chairman of Moeckel Carbonell
Associates Inc. said, "Helen Pierce, AIA, one of our Senior
Architects, led our design team. We are very proud of the
efforts of all of our architects who participated, including
Christian Sereduke, AIA and Will Hurd."
The competition drew hundreds of entries. Moeckel Carbonell
Associates' project was displayed, along with the other 11
award-winning projects, at the June 2004 AIA National Convention
and Expo in Chicago , Illinois . The projects will continue
to be displayed nationally and internationally t hroughout
the coming year as visual examples of the possibilities for
design excellence and sustainability in future housing designs.
Moeckel Carbonell Associates Inc., originally founded in
1909, is one of the oldest architectural firms in continuous
