| An adaptive reuse of an existing 13,000 s.f. Parks and Recreation maintenance building complex. New uses include multi-purpose spaces, job training facilities, adminis-trative offices, horticultural library, retail space, staff and volunteer offices and demon-stration gardens. Renovation designed in context with projected use and surroundings in Brandywine Park. This project provides an attractive, functional and energy efficient headquarters to serve the citizens of Wilmington and Delaware with various horti-cultural programs, both on site and by visitation. |

| Spaces were designed to interconnect. The old brick building structure was preserved, trusses and heavy timber and window treatment were painted to enliven the space. Each program area is mechanically zoned separately so areas of the building can be tempered when not in use. On balanced-degree days, the mechanical zones can be completely turned off and windows opened. | |
